“What is the best time to come to Saint-Petersburg”- this question is often asked by the travelers.
Every month has its own advantages and disadvantages.
July and August are the most popular months among tourists. The weather is mild. It is sunny most of the days. Temperature goes up to +20+25°C(+70+80°F),
But the museums are overcrowded; the hotels give the highest prices.
September and October are quite cold. The temperature is around +10°. It is raining frequently. The Indian summer with its sunny days comes for few weeks during these two months.
November, December, January and February are the coldest months. Temperature might go below -20°C(-4°F). Winter is a very dark season. Sun rises at 11 a.m. and goes down at 3 p.m.
That’s why I wouldn’t recommend to visit Saint-Petersburg during winter.
March is fine. It is snowy and sunny. It’s nice time to go skiing.
April is the time when snow thaws. It is slushy in the streets.
The end of April and May are nice. They are sunny and warm. Temperature is around +15°C. (+60°F)
June is warm month, not so touristy as July and August. But don’t expect summer warmth from this month. It is still +15°C(+60°F). It is raining often.
The monthly weather in Saint-Petersburg described by me is only approximate. The weather in our city is unpredictable. It might be cold even in July.
There is a local joke about our weather: we have two winters in Saint-Petersburg. The white winter and the green one.
That’s why even if you come here in summer I would recommend to be dressed in layers, bring the raincoat or umbrella, warm jacket and comfortable, suitable for rain, shoes.
